THE number of coronavirus cases in Oxfordshire has gone down again this week.

The total went from 577 to 481 in one week, a decrease of 16.6 per cent, putting the infection rate at 69 per 100,000 of the population.

In Oxford, 107 people tested positive, putting the infection rate at 70.6. The highest number of cases was reported in Headington, where 14 people tested positive.

  • Osney, Jericho & Port Meadow, 10
  • Grandpont & New Hinksey, less than 3 cases

  • Cowley South & Iffley, 5
  • Iffley Fields, less than 3 cases
  • Blackbird Leys, 3
  • Littlemore & Rose Hill, 6
  • Greater Leys, 3

Covid cases figures for local authorities in the county are as follows:

  • Vale of White Horse, 85
  • West Oxfordshire, 84
  • South Oxfordshire, 99
  • Cherwell, 106

There were no more coronavirus deaths recorded over the latest weekly period in Oxford.

A total of 221 people had died in the area when the UK coronavirus dashboard was updated on Wednesday last week (August 17) – which was unchanged from a week previously.

They were among 24,148 deaths recorded across the South East. The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Oxford.

The government covid dashboard is updated weekly with figures available for most UK postcodes. These are the latest figures available.

Meanwhile, Oxford University Hospitals Trust, which runs the John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals in Oxford and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury, was caring for 66 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday last week, according to new figures.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for covid by 8am on August 16 was down from 93 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at the trust occupied by people who tested positive for covid decreased by 65 per cent in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 190.

Across England there were 7,832 people in hospital with covid as of August 16, with 195 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of covid patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 43 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 39 per cent.

The figures also show that 39 new covid patients were admitted to hospital at the trust in the week to August 14. This was down from 69 in the previous seven days.
