Firefighters helped to control 'a significant fire' in Black Bourton at the weekend.

The blaze broke out at Ernwood Farm in the village at around 5pm on Saturday.

Carterton Fire Station and Faringdon Fire Station were called to a field fire at Ernwood Farm.

A fire in a combine harvester ignited the field.

Twelve bales and around 30 acres of the crop was destroyed due to the recent intense hot weather conditions.

The fire had spread to nearby trees but with hard work the crews managed to stop it spreading to other fields and property.

This incident was resolved with support from local farmers, Gloucestershire Fire Service and RAF Fire & Rescue crews from RAF Brize Norton.

The lessons learnt from recent joint training exercises with the RAF were put into practice at this incident, which allowed a swift response to an escalating fire. Their assistance was hugely important during such a busy period where resources around the county were stretched.
