A WOMAN has been banned from driving after pleading guilty to using a mobile phone while on the road.

Jill Battson, 64, of Queen Street, Dorchester, Wallingford, admitted using a mobile phone while driving on the M5 in South Gloucestershire, on September 5.

She was fined £211, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and court costs of £90. She was also disqualified from driving for six months.

Her guilty plea was taken into account when imposing sentence.

The case was heard at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court on August 9.

It’s illegal to hold and use a phone, sat nav, tablet, or any device that can send or receive data, while driving or riding a motorcycle.

The law still applies even when: stopped at traffic lights; queuing in traffic; supervising a learner driver; driving a car that turns off the engine when stopped moving, and holding and using a device which is offline or in flight mode.
