A prisoner was allegedly twice caught with a homemade cosh – crafted from a tin of tuna stuffed in a sock.
Abid Khan, 22, was said to have been found with the item ‘on his person’ at HMP Bullingdon on March 16. Then, the following day, a sock-stuffed fish tin was discovered in his belongings by custody staff.
Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon via video link, Khan, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to two counts of unauthorised possession of a weapon inside a prison
He admitted two unrelated charges of possession of unauthorised Zanco mobile phones at the Bicester prison in May.
The magistrates sent his case to Oxford Crown Court, where Khan will appear on September 16 for a plea and trial preparation hearing. He was remanded in custody.
