FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a cow which got stranded in a pub by the River Cherwell.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that crews were called at 2pm to the distressed calf.
Firefighters wore life jackets and dry suits, and supported by a specialist boat, used floating lines to rescue the calf.
Incident commander Jason Clifford said the cow looked relieved to get out of the river and after a five-minute break to recover, returned to the rest of the herd in a nearby field.
One eyewitness told the Oxford Mail that six fire engines were at The Victoria Arms in Old Marston, to deal with the incident.

He said: “I drove down there, then I decided to drive down to The Victoria Arms pub and there were six fire brigades in the car park.”
