FOURTEEN celebrities have been confirmed to take part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The annual BBC show started announcing the contestants on Thursday (4) last week for the dancing series, which is due to launch on Wednesday, September 7.

So who has been announced for this year’s fan-favourite dancing show? From actors to comedians, journalists to Paralympians, let’s take a look…

  • Will Mellor – an actor best known for his appearances in Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Line of Duty, Broadchurch and most recently Coronation Street as Harvey Gaskell
  • Kym Marsh – actress best known for her role of Michelle Connor in Coronation Street for which she won ‘Best Newcomer’ at both the National Television Awards and British Soap Awards.
  • Richie Anderson - RTS award winning presenter best known for his well-established role on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show with Zoe Ball
  • Kaye Adams - TV, radio presenter and journalist 
  • Jayde Adams – comedian, actor and presenter
  • Ellie Simmonds - gold medal-winning Paralympic swimmer and broadcaster
  • Tyler West - TV presenter, radio host and DJ
  • Matt Goss - Singer-songwriter, musician and actor best known for being the frontman of BROS
  • Ellie Taylor - comedian, broadcaster, writer and actor
  • Mollie Rainford - singer and actress best known for becoming the youngest ever finalist of Britain’s Got Talent at 11 years old in 2012
  • Tony Adams - former English football player and manager.
  • Fleur East - singer-songwriter, TV and radio presenter
  • Hamza Yassin -  a wildlife cameraman and presenter
  • James Bye - a stage and screen actor, best known for playing Martin Fowler on EastEnders

It is rumoured that Helen Skelton, a television presenter and actress best known for co-presenting the BBC children's programme Blue Peter, will be the fifteen contestant to join the show completing the full line-up.

The series has been broadcast on BBC One since May 2004 which the show typically showing on Saturday evenings with a following Sunday night results show.

From series two onwards, the show has been broadcast in the run up to Christmas featuring special Halloween and Christmas episodes.

Last year’s contest was won by Eastenders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice.

She wowed audiences over the 13-week show as the 27-year-old became the first deaf person to take part on the programme.

Last year’s programme also saw fan-favourite Anton Du Beke, a British ballroom and Latin dancer who has been on the show since series one, take a seat on the judging panel as Bruno Tonioli was unable to film due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He is due to return to the panel this year permanently.
