It has been the driest year in Oxford since 1976.
The Radcliffe Meteorological Station recorded only 236.1mm of precipitation between January and July 2022, the lowest since '76 when there was a two-month heatwave.
The station, located within the grounds of Green Templeton College, in the shadow of the iconic Radcliffe Observatory, also recorded no rainfall during August so far.
It has been taking daily weather observations in Oxford since 1815, the longest record in the UK.
Its records, which date back to 1767, are taken in strict accordance with Met Office standards, and yet double the length of Met Office records themselves, which only date back to 1910.
Only 236.1mm of precipitation was measured at the Radcliffe Met Station between January and July 2022, the fewest since 1976. And with no rainfall recorded during August so far, could we see records broken from beyond 1976? pic.twitter.com/HO29wFR0Vv
