Fairport’s Cropredy Convention Festival returns this weekend after a three-year pandemic pause.

Set up and still run by the folk-rock band Fairport Convention it is celebrating its 55th anniversary with 13,000 tickets sold.

Highlights of the three days at the site near Banbury include The Trevor Horn Band and Clannad (Thursday), Martyn Joseph and Steve Hackett’s Genesis Revisited (Friday) and Richard Thompson and Fairport Convention with guests on Saturday.

Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention said he could not wait.

"There's so many people coming who missed the last couple of years. It's become such a special thing Cropredy in many people's lives," he told BBC Radio Oxford. "People come from all over the world for it."

He added: "For the first time ever that I can remember there will be four days of sun and no rain and no storm. It's just amazing for us."

Organisers have clarified their 'open flame policy' because of the current hot weather.

Writing on the official Facebook page, event fire officer Paul Musgrove advised that as well as the usual ban on charcoal barbecues organisers would be grateful if there were no gas barbecues this year either.

There will be plenty of food available and plenty of choice from the caterers in the arena.
