Beer drinkers are looking forward to two major festivals, according to the Oxford branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.

The Oxford Brewers Alliance returns on Saturday, September 17 with the Big Oxford Beer Bash, held successfully for the second time last year but not in 2020.

This outdoor event in the grounds of The Oxford Artisan Distillery (TOAD) in Cheney Lane, at the top of South Park, features most local brewers who will be available to talk about their latest beers.

There will also be food stalls and live music at the event which runs from 12 noon until 8pm.

The Big Oxford Beer Bash Facebook page says: “A one day festival celebrating the very best local independent craft beers.

“The Beer Bash is a full on immersive experience of great local drinks, food and festival vibes.

“Enjoy the Beer Street of brewery bars where the bars are run by the brewers themselves; interact and learn about the art of brewing with the masters of their trade and the brewers of your favourite local beers.

Oxford Mail:

“Local food producers will also offer a variety of dishes, including Vegan options.

“The Distillery Bar will also be open for their fantastic range of Gins, wines, soft drinks and hot beverages.

“To keep the festival vibe going, a host of local DJs and artists will performing throughout the day.”

The following month, it’s another big festival real ale fans have been waiting for - the return of the Oxford Beer and Cider Festival at Oxford Town Hall in St Aldate’s, last held in 2019.

Backed by CAMRA, this will take place on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21.

Opening on Saturday, October 22 may not happen as the attendance on previous Saturdays did not cover costs.

Further details including opening times will appear nearer the time.

Oxford Mail:

The website says: “Our successful event in 2019 was the 22nd at the town hall with 170 different real ales and 50 ciders and perries.

“We have a provisional date for this year’s festival - from Thursday, October 20 to Saturday, October 22 and are starting to plan it now.

“It will be in the town hall as usual but the format and everything else is up for discussion.

“We have no idea how much beer we will be able to sell for one thing.

“One possibility is dropping Saturday and just having a two-day festival. That extra day costs a lot of money and doesn’t bring in as many people.”
