FIREFIGHTERS have warned parents to talk to their children about the dangers of starting fires.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that Witney Fire Station attended two blazes ‘that simply didn’t need to happen’.

The first was caused by a bonfire getting out control, setting three acres of grass alight in New Yatt.

The fire service reported the blaze was ‘less severe than it could have been’.

“The second call of the day was caused by youths setting fires in grasses around where they have been gathering,” the fire service added in a post online.

“Not only is the litter left behind bad but the deliberate fires in such dry weather is not a great choice to make.

“Please can all parents talk to their children and remind them of the dangers posed when playing with fire.”
