HUNDREDS of people turned up to the Westgate shopping centre in Oxford for the opening of a new doughnut shop.

Doughnut Time, a sweet-treat chain, opened the new store in the unit between Rituals and the library, and opposite Urban Outfitters.

The shop celebrated its opening yesterday (August 6) by giving out free doughnuts and more than 500 people turned up for the event throughout the day, queueing in front of the shop from about 11:30am.

Each visitor received one free doughnut by scanning a QR code.

Rosie Hudson, marketing manager for the store, said: “Our store is special because it stands out – our doughnuts are premium products, no one does doughnuts like us and they are definitely worth trying if you haven’t already.

“Over 50 per cent of our menu is vegan, it’s only what goes on top that makes it non-vegan – and they taste exactly the same, you can’t tell they are vegan, they are amazing.

“We also have our gluten-free range, which has more of a cakey texture and those doughnuts are cooked in the oven rather than fried. I love our lemon drizzle one from that range, it’s the best I’ve ever tried.”

The chain already has twelve shops across London, as well as branches in Basingstoke, Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell and Bicester.

Doughnut Time also sells doughnut merchandise, party treats and a range of gifts and cards.
