FIREFIGHTERS extinguished a blaze at a house in Carterton, which was caused by an electrical fault.

On Friday evening (August 5) at about 8:10pm, crews from Witney, Burford and Rewley Road fire stations were called to reports of a fire in a bedroom in the Cranwell Avenue area of the town.

When they arrived on the scene, the firefighters were faced with smoke and flames coming from the back of the property.

A spokesperson from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The actions of the occupiers have clearly saved the rest of the property from severe fire and smoke damage by closing the door to the fire, and were alerted early on by their smoke detectors.

“Two breathing apparatus crews swiftly extinguished the fire using hose reel jets and thoroughly checked the property for any fire spread.

“The cause has been investigated and determined to have been an electrical fault from something that was on charge.

“We would like to remind everyone to have items charging when you're at home and to ensure that you do not exceed the sockets amp rating.”
