A horse was rescued after falling into a canal.

Jake the horse accidentally fell into the water north of Pigeon’s Lock, Oxford Canal in Kirtlington on Thursday morning.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue and the local Canal and River Trust team raced to the scene to help the tried and distressed horse out of the water.

Rescuers from Kidlington Fire Station used apples to encouraged Jake along the canal to a spot around 50 metres away, where he could safely exit the water.

After coaxing Jake out of the water, the horse returned to his field no worse for wear.

A video shared by the fire service showed Jake getting out of the water, as a crowd of onlookers cheered for his safe rescue.
