American chicken restaurant chain Popeyes will soon be opening in Queen Street.

The chain, which was started 50 years ago in Louisiana by Al Copeland, has taken over a retail unit, which is now being fitted out.

Signs have gone up, and work is being carried out in the unit opposite Marks & Spencer.

It is understood the restaurant could be ready to open in about six weeks' time.

The area around the entrance is cordoned off while building work takes place.

The chain's website says: "Popeyes was founded in 1972 Louisiana by Al Copeland who dreamed of serving the best fried chicken.

"Forty-nine years ago in New Orleans, Louisiana a taste sensation was born.

There are already several Popeyes restaurants across London.
