Temporary orders giving police extra powers to break up groups whose behaviour is causing trouble are currently in place in Oxford.
It follows recent incidents of disorder between two groups where members of the public have been injured, said police.
Where are the orders in place?
In areas in East Oxford, mainly streets surrounding Cowley Road, and in Oxford City Centre in the area outlined in the map below, including Gloucester Green, Cornmarket Street and George Street.
How long will they remain?
They were put in place from 7pm on Friday night (29) and will remain until 7am on Sunday morning (31).
What is a dispersal order?
Section 35 dispersal orders are part of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2014.
They give police “extra powers to break up groups of two or more people, where they believe their behaviour is causing a nuisance, harassment or distress”.
Section 35 dispersal power can be used by police officers and designated PCSOs to deal with individuals aged 10 or over engaging in anti-social behaviour or crime and disorder not only when they have occurred or are occurring, but when they are likely to occur in a locality.
Thames Valley Police said: “The orders relate to recent incidents of disorder between two groups, which have resulted in members of the public receiving injuries.”
