It doesn’t matter what time of year it is - children will have fun whatever the season.

Oxford Mail photographers on their daily rounds of the county were always on the lookout for youngsters enjoying themselves, as in Picture 1.

St Andrew’s School at Headington, Oxford, had organised a summer fair and one of the most popular attractions was a giant inflatable.

There wasn’t much room to move as children jumped, bounced and dive-bombed around, much to the delight of their parents watching from the sidelines.

Members of the school’s parent-teacher association organised the day in 1985 to help raise money for a new mobile classroom that the school urgently needed.

Oxford Mail:

The contraption in Picture 2 was a miniature Mount Everest which 18 Oxford Scouts climbed continually one day in 1975.

By the end of the Saturday afternoon, they had reached the 29,028ft summit twice - without ever being more than 10ft above the ground.

The climb took place outside the hall at the Church of SS Peter and Paul at Botley, Oxford, and was organised by the 5th Oxford Scout troop.

The Scouts took it in turns to climb the 10ft-high scaffolding platform, with each boy sponsored to raise money for Cumnor Rise Hospital.

There was more energetic activity at the Woodlands adventure playground at Slade Park, Headington, with events such as building a tree house and assault course.

The old boat in Picture 4 had been delivered to the play area at Blackbird Leys community centre.

Oxford Mail:

Picture 5 shows Richard Ayres, six, and his sister Deborah, four, of Newton Road, Oxford, making the most of the sunshine in 1974 climbing on the frame at New Hinksey recreation ground.

Oxford Mail:

There was fun and laughter, too, at South Oxford playgroup, off Abingdon Road, in Picture 6 - mum Pam Jenkins enjoyed this swing in 1975.
