On Sunday evening, one of the busiest streets in Oxford became a crime scene.

The road was taped off by police and forensics scoured the road for clues.

Police later revealed that there had been a suspected shooting.

Here's what we know so far

  • The incident happened at 6.45pm on Cowley Road (near the junction of Crown Street)
  • The victim was left with a small wound in his shoulder and was taken to hospital for treatment but has been discharged
  • Police do not know what type of weapon was used but believe a firearm of some description was discharged at the victim
  • Investigators have said they think it was a ‘targeted attack’
  • Police say there was a Blue BMW at the scene and think that the offenders used it to turn into Crown Street from Cowley Road – they’ve now asked witnesses to check CCTV and dash-cam footage

Arrests

In total, four men have been arrested for the incident.

A 21-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm. Police were given a warrant for further detention meaning they could question him for another 12 hours. Officers have now charged Emman Riasat, 21, of Outram Road, Cowley, with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He will appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court this morning.

A 25-year-old man from Luton was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has now been released under investigation.

A 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, both from Oxford, were arrested last night (Monday) on suspicion of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm. They are both still being questioned by police.

The 23-year-old man has been released on bail until August 22 and the 25-year-old man has been released under investigation.
