Authorities have pointed to a piece of legislation after seeing an increased number of reports around unaccountable dog walkers.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) South Oxon and Vale of White Horse have described an increase in the number of reports they have received with regards to members of the public being bitten by dogs off their leads in public places.

A spokesperson for TVP in a Facebook post said: “Can we please remind dog owners that it is your personal responsibility to maintain control of your dog at all times.

“If a dog does go to bite another person there is legislation - The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 - in place that could result in the prosecution of the person that owns or is in control of the dog at the time of the incident.”
