Young hopefuls aiming to impress with their talents will take to the stage at an Oxford primary school this week.

Pupils from New Marston Primary School will be competing to win the top prize in a talent show organised to raise money for the school.

New Marston Has Talent, a take on the popular ITV series Britain's Got Talent, will see young magicians, balloon sculptors and singers taking to the stage.

They will be battling it out against parents and teachers to find out who is the most talented person in the school.

Headteacher Zara Darchambaud said: "Parents said they would like to see more family events, and children said they wanted more play equipment, so this is a good way of doing both.

"We're charging everyone who enters the show £1 and will be charging 50p to watch. We hope to raise some of the funds for a new £500 equipment shed."

The headteacher said the new shed would help form the basis of a new "responsible play" scheme.

She said: "Sometimes the equipment we hand out for play periods goes missing.

"The new scheme will see children buying special key rings from the school to hand over any time they take equipment from the new shed.

"When the play period is over the children will then hand over the equipment and will get their key ring back. If they lose the equipment then they will have to buy another key ring.

"The idea is to make the children more responsible for the equipment."

For the talent show, teachers will put on a group performance.

Ms Darchambaud said: "All I can say right now is that there will be cooking involved and some custard pies."

Marcia Davis, nine, said: "I'm going to play the piano. I've played in assembly before, but this will be the first time I've played to a big audience.

"I haven't decided what I'm going to play yet, but I might play Greensleeves."
