AN Oxfordshire restaurant has only been handed a two-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Monsoon Oxford, in Beaumont Road, Oxford, was given the score on June 13 after an assessment by the Food Standards Agency.

The website shows that the takeaway restaurant, which serves biryani dishes, vegetarian meals, fish dishes, wraps, tandoor dishes, and more, scored only two out of a possible five stars.

The rating of two means that “some improvement is necessary”. Food establishments are judged on handling of food, how food is stored, how food is prepared, cleanliness of facilities, and how food safety is managed

It means that of Oxford's 402 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 338, 84 per cent, have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.
