This week’s heatwave could very well smash Oxford’s record temperature.

The Met Office has predicted that today (July 18) and tomorrow (July 19) the county will see potentially record-breaking temperatures and has issued a red weather alert for ‘extreme heat’ in response.

The weather forecaster has warned the weather is poses a risk to people’s health, infrastructure and transport.

Figures shared with the Oxford Mail by the Met Office show that this week’s heatwave could very likely smash Oxford’s record temperature.

Oxford’s hottest temperature stands at 36.5°C which was recorded on July 25 2019.

The city’s joint second scorching temperatures, both 35.1°C, were recorded on July 31 2020 and August 3 1990.

The third hottest was 35°C on August 19 1932.

Today and tomorrow the city is expecting temperatures of up to 37°C.
