FIREFIGHTERS were called to train tracks in between Oxford and Didcot after a dramatic fire.
Photographs taken from above show smoke billowing into the sky from a woodland area next to the tracks on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters armed with extinguishers managed to stop the fire spreading across the trees but more pictures reveal the damage left behind.
Part of the woodland is completely burnt out, even the pointy metal fence keeping people away from the tracks is black from smoke and wilted from the fire.
The fire caused delays to trains between Didcot Parkway and Oxford station.
Writing on social media, Great Western Railway warned commuters: “Due to a fire next to the track between Didcot Parkway and Oxford, all lines are blocked.
“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.”
The incident took an hour to resolve but by 10.30am trains were back to normal.
It is not known how the fire started but Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue service warned anybody who wants to throw away ‘hot’ things to be extra careful.
Writing on Facebook, the team said: “Crews from Didcot have been very busy this last week. The pictures are from a railway embankment fire we attended this morning. Accidental or otherwise, the fire was quickly contained by crews and prevented an impact on the rail network!
“Please be careful when you dispose of BBQs, cigarettes and other hot items in this current warm spell!”
