Bin collections could be delayed, as sweltering temperatures continue across the county.

Yesterday (July 11) the Met Office issued an amber warning for 'extreme heat' for Oxfordshire.

While crews are still out collecting rubbish, South Oxfordshire District Council has warned it is likely work will “stop early” due to the heat.

Taking to social media, the council apologised in advance for the possible delays.

The council said that people should leave their bins outside their homes for two days after their scheduled collection, if their bins were missed by waste collection crews.

A spokesperson for South Oxfordshire District Council said: “Our crews are already out and about emptying bins. It is likely they will stop early due to the extremely hot weather forecast today and the rest of the week.

“If we have not emptied your bins then please leave them out for two days after your scheduled collection and we will aim to catch up.

“Sorry for any inconvenience.”
