A major road has been closed by the fire service and multiple crews are on the scene of a ‘significant’ field fire.

The A420 has been closed due to smoke billowing up from the field fire near Longcot in Faringdon.

Six crews from across the county are on the scene, as they have been battling the blaze since 5.30pm.

An Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson has urged people to avoid the area.

They said: “Please take care during this hot weather when the increased risk of fire is significant.”
