FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a dog which got stranded in water.

At 5.40am yesterday, the crew from Goring Fire Station and a specialist rescue crew from Kidlington helped Coco the dog at Benson Lock.

The dog had ‘made a detour from the planned walk’ and ended up stranded on a block of concrete within the weir, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported.

In a post online, the fire service said: “Fortunately it’s owner stayed well away from the water and called us, who were only too happy to help and had Coco back on dry land quickly and safely.

“Using a rescue sled, we were able to safely set up a means to rescue Coco, as weirs are immensely dangerous.”
