A man has been fined hundreds of pounds for failing to buy a train ticket to London.

The case of Daniel Forde, of Bondway in London, was heard at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on July 1.

The court found that one January 6 Forde travelled from Oxford to London Marylebone, on a Chiltern Railway service, without having brought the £37 ticket.

He also failed to hand over his ticket for inspection and verification of validity when asked to do so by the train guard.

The verdict was proved in absence of Forde.

The 29-year-old was fined a total of £320, made to pay compensation of £37 to Chiltern Railway and a victim surcharge of £34.

Chiltern Railway urges people to “buy your ticket before you board the train”.
