A man looked out of his bedroom window to discover his bin was ablaze.

Mark Barney, of Farmhouse Meadow in Witney, returned from his parent’s house yesterday to find the “small-ish” fire and lots of smoke.

The 33-year-old acted quickly and rung Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue, with a crew from Witney Fire Station arriving around 5 minutes later to deal with the fire.

The incident resulted in both of Mr Barney’s bins being destroyed, meaning he is going to have to request new ones from the council.

A picture shared with this newspaper show the one bin has been melted while the other was left with burn marks.

While Mr Barney does not know who started the fire in his bins, he says he is not worried and sees the incident as a “one-off”.
