E-SCOOTERS with indicators are set to be rolled out in Oxford.

A trial of e-scooters, operated by Voi, in the city will continue until November after a traffic order was signed off last month.

Voi is now set to replace its Voiager 3 (V3) model with the Voiager (V4), which have turn indicators unlike the V3.

The e-scooter also boats a five-year lifespan, plus higher quality tyres and increased shock absorption, to ease the impact from cobbles and potholes.

Grace Packard, senior policy manager at Voi UK, said: “The dynamism and innovation that characterises Oxford is also visible in the fast adoption of Voi e-scooters.

“Over 340,000 rides have been taken in Oxford since the beginning of the trials and we estimate to have replaced over 100,000 short car trips.

“We continue to see increasing demand for this sustainable transport mode in the city as more people seek cheaper and greener alternatives to short car rides.

“By introducing an even safer, more robust and technologically advanced vehicle, we aim to continue to support all residents and visitors with a high-quality transport service while helping to cut congestion and pollution in the city.”

The trial scheme started in February 2021, with Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highway management, Andrew Gant, saying it has ‘made a significant contribution to choice of travel method’ when approving the traffic order last month.
