TWO chickens with unusual names have spread some joy at an Oxfordshire care home.

Elderly residents have been taking part in a range of activities at homes across the county, to mark Care Home Open Week.

The bantam chickens – named Pasta and Tesco – paid a visit to Madley Park House care home in Witney.

The chickens belong to home manager Niki Rowlands, who has cared for them since they were a week old.

She said: “Our residents were excited to see the animals. Their faces lit up when they saw them.

“They are very friendly and one of our ladies said the feathers were lovely and soft.”

Tim Bearder, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care, added: “Care Home Open Week provides homes with the opportunity to show what they have to offer, their fantastic facilities, activities and services, reminding the public that they are there if they need support and so much more.

“It’s also an opportunity for individuals to learn more about some of the brilliant career opportunities available within social care.”

Jane Wood, marketing manager at Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers, said: “Care Home Open Week is the perfect opportunity to showcase the fantastic career opportunities and job roles available across Oxfordshire in social care.

“Every day is different and incredibly rewarding – if you enjoy working with people, social care is the place for you.”
