A POST box topper has been in honour of a postman who worked in Didcot for 32 years.

“Yarnsy”, an anonymous post box topper crocheter, has designed the topper in Broadway in memory of Alan Dodd.

Mr Dodd, who passed away at the age of 66 on June 2, was a “much-loved and helpful” postman who worked in his home village of East Hagbourne and throughout Didcot.

Christina Moxon, a family friend of Mr Dodd, said: “He always went out of his way to help others. He has a family who he adores, always talked about his daughter and Alison watching football.

Oxford Mail:

“He had had a lot of friends outside of work also who met up for drinks at the social club.”

“Yarnsy”, who also decorates the box in Haydon Road, created the topper as a surprise for Mr Dodd’s family at his funeral yesterday (29).

Oxford Mail:

The funeral procession passed the post box at about 12.15pm which features a Royal Mail van, a little black cat and Mr Dodds in a yellow jacket.

In a note left on the topper, “Yarnsy” said: “I smile and chuckle all the while, all filled with deep content, I smile and smile because I have, the letter that you sent.
