A man caught speeding on a motorway has learned a harsh lesson after he was fined nearly £1,000.

Scott Arnold, of Wasbrough Avenue, Wantage, was caught on the M4 in Wiltshire on January 15.

The 47-year-old pleaded guilty to driving his Mercedes at a speed exceeding the 70mph motorway limit.

He was fined £806 at Swindon Magistrates Court on June 28.

He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £81 as well as costs of £110 – bringing his total financial outlay to £997.

He was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 14 days.
