An author’s beloved bicycle helmet, which she wore on a cross-continental charity ride, has been stolen.

Author and broadcaster Julie Summers, whose work has previously been adapted for television, had her helmet stolen from outside the Covered Market on June 25.

Mrs Summers’ helmet has sentimental value because of a sticker on it from the 2021 Pedal to Paris charity bike ride, which she took part in with her husband and eldest son, raising £8,000 for the Royal British Legion.

She said: “It is a strange world where someone thinks it is OK to steal a bicycle helmet.

“I’m particularly sad because it had my Pedal to Paris 2021 sticker on it - number 116.

“I’d be hugely grateful to have it returned for sentimental as much as practical reasons. It is pale pink and identifiable by the Royal British Legion sticker on the side.”

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "Thames Valley Police has received a report of a theft of a cycle helmet at The Market, Oxford which is reported to have happened between 12.45pm and 1pm.

"We would ask anyone with any information around this incident to please report online quoting reference 43220287089. At this time the report has been filed pending further information coming to light."

If you have any information relating to the helmet, you can contact Mrs Summers on julie@juliesummers.co.uk.
