An Oxford naturist club is set to host a ‘family friendly’ swimming session for both members and non-members.

Oxford Naturist Club, also known as Oxnat, is a ‘long established and friendly naturist club’ which has more than 100 members with ages ranging from ‘infants to octogenarians’.

The swimming session is set to take place at Didcot Wave Leisure Centre on Newlands Avenue on July 23.

The secretary of Oxnat described the event as “family friendly” and said anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

A reason rule change for the club means it is no longer for under 12s who attend the event to swim naked and they have the option to keep their clothes on.

The secretary said: “The whole nature of naturism is that people are acutely aware of the consequences and vulnerabilities of nakedness.

“People are more grown-up about it.”

He added one of the reasons for the event is to promote the club and the lifestyle of naturism.

In 2020, Waterworld banned children from attending private naturist functions after staff were allegedly “abused” by demonstrators protesting against the event.

In a statement, the leisure centre, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, said it had taken the decision after claiming workers were targeted by “unacceptable and unwarranted abuse”.

Oxnat is a member of British Naturism,  which was set up in 1964 and is the internationally-recognised UK national naturist organisation.
