AN EMPTY shop on Oxford High Street could be transformed into a diner.
Troubled café chain Patisserie Valerie closed its doors for the last time in early 2020, before the pandemic.
But as the high street started to reopen last year, the unit at 90 High Street sat empty and unused.
A new planning application to Oxford City Council has revealed that Rick’s Diner will be taking over the shop.
Bosses at the eatery, who already have a branch on Cowley Road, have asked the council if they can replace the pink Patisserie Valerie hanging sign with a chocolate brown one saying ‘Rick’s Diner’.
On the windows will be lazer cut stickers saying ‘breakfast’, ‘lunch’, ‘dinner’ and ‘Oxford’s favourite diner’.
90 High Street was bought by University College from Christ Church in 1905. It’s a 12th century Grade II listed building and planners say recent works recently revealed some parts of the house contain what now must be the oldest buildings in the college.
