A MAN has been fined and given points on his licence for using his mobile phone while driving.
However he escaped a driving ban.
John Roper, of Long Lane, Oxford, has been ordered to pay a total of £270 by magistrates after being caught using a hand-held mobile phone while driving on Longwall Street on December 17 2021.
He pleaded guilty to the offence.
There was no totting disqualification due to mitigating circumstances, including that he would lose his job and impact on his ability to gain alternative employment, it would impact on his business, impact on his son and loss of his employment, and impact on his dependent elderly mother and his ability to transport her to medical appointments.
Roper was fined £146 and given six points on his licence.
He will also have to pay £90 in court costs and a surcharge of £34 to fund victim services.
He was sentenced at Wycombe Magistrates' Court on June 16.
