A MAN smashed his pregnant girlfriend’s iPhone and stopped her from leaving the house in what has been labelled an “act of jealous rage”.

Nicky John Millard threw his partner’s mobile phone against the wall after an argument with her in Royal Wootton Bassett on April 30.

He was jailed for three months in a court hearing last week – although won’t serve any more time in custody after the judge took the time he has spent on remand into account.

Millard, of Queens Road, had initially been charged with false imprisonment in relation to the incident.

However, at Salisbury Crown Court on June 16, prosecutor Tom Wilkins withdrew this charge, citing an updated statement from the victim.

The defendant then changed his plea to guilty on one count of criminal damage.

Mr Wilkins added that Millard has a “long record” of previous convictions, including assault and criminal damage. A number of these are domestic in nature, he said.

Sentencing the 34-year-old, Judge Richard Parkes QC said he “very sensibly” decided to plead at this stage.

“Having regard to your record, a sentence of imprisonment is inevitable, but you’ve now been 45 days on remand," he said.

“The sentence I pass is one of three months imprisonment, which I think will either enable you to be released immediately or in the next day or so.”

A restraining order was made until further order, which prevents him contacting the victim directly or indirectly, except through solicitors.
