A lorry driver has appeared in court accused of causing the crash that killed one man and seriously injuring another.

Prosecutors say Valentin Baluta, 29, was behind the wheel of a MAN TGX articulated lorry on the A420 near Little Coxwell, south Oxfordshire, in the early hours of December 12, 2020, when he struck a white Mercedes Sprinter 'minibus' van.

A passenger in the van, Florin-Mihaita Hudescu, allegedly lost his life as a result of the crash. Another man, named in charges laid before the magistrates’ court as Onu-Leontin Crisan, was said to have been seriously injured.

Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon, Baluta, of Firmin Close, Ipswich, entered no pleas to allegations of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was granted unconditional bail ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at Oxford Crown Court on July 21.
