Parents are disgusted after finding a children’s splash pad covered in faeces and algae.

The splash pad in Abingdon’s Abbey Meadow Park has opened for the summer and although it is cleaned regularly, it is often covered in goose faeces.

Parents appalled at the mess have taken to social media with pictures of the dirty splash pads.

She added that children are not able to walk barefoot on the water play area due to the amount of faeces.

The Vale of White Horse District council contracts a company to clean the splash pad play area every day and has urged the public to not feed the geese because it attracts them to the park.

A Vale of White Horse District Council spokesperson said: “The splash pads at Abbey Meadow are maintained and cleaned on a daily basis by our leisure contractors GLL.

“The splash pads come on automatically when people are using them, so they are not spraying water all the time. We are looking into some issues with some of the controls for the splash pads, but this doesn’t affect the sprays.

“We ask that residents help us keep the area clean by not feeding the geese in the park which attracts them to the pads.”
