A GOOD Samaritan came to the aid of a couple being mugged at knifepoint in a park

A would-be robber, aged in his late teens or early 20s, approached the couple who were sitting on a bench near the fitness area in People's Park, Banbury, at about 6.10pm on Thursday.

He demanded a wallet and lifted up his top to show a knife tucked into his waist band.

A witness who had seen the incident unfurl, approached the couple and the attacker fled towards an alleyway in the direction of West Bar Street.

The attempted robber was described as white, with unshaven and scruffy ginger facial hair.

He wore black unzipped hoody with the hood up, a dark top beneath, black joggers and black Nike trainers with white soles.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "Were you in the vicinity at the time and think you saw the suspect?

"Do you have any information which would be helpful to the police investigation?

"If so, please phone 101 quoting reference 43220263974."
