Readers are now being asked to vote to help us to find the best cafe in Oxford.

Cafes across the city are competing to win the title Oxford Mail Best Cafe 2022.

A shortlist of 10 cafes has been drawn up and readers are now being asked to nominate their favourite.

The latest two cafes to be featured on the shortlist are run by charities Yellow Submarine and the League of Friends..

Yellow Submarine runs cafes in Oxford and Witney, while the League of Friends runs cafes at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Yellow Submarine has a cafe in Park End Street and another at Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney.

The charity’s website says: “Since 2013 our award-winning cafes have been serving outstanding coffee and food in both Witney and Oxford and we have regularly been rated #1 restaurant in Oxford on TripAdvisor.

“However, from day one our vision has been to change the lives of young people with learning disabilities and autism.

“Our thriving cafes allow us to run our in-house traineeship programmes which provides a genuine stepping-stone to employment and independence for our trainees. Our cafes create incredible, life-changing opportunities for each individual.

“We pride ourselves on our friendly and welcoming atmosphere, paired with what one food critic described as ‘a whiff of M&S or Pret‘… we’ll take that as a compliment, although our manager would argue our coffee is a league above!”

Cafe staff also deliver lunchtime sandwich platters to many of the biggest firms in Oxford, including Siemens, Savills, Blake Morgan and many more.

Yellow Submarine staff and volunteers celebrated the charity’s 10th anniversary in 2019 with a party at Hill End activities centre.

League of Friends volunteers run two cafés at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington.

One is located on the ground floor of the main hospital and a smaller café can be found in the Women’s Centre.

More than 700 customers use the cafes every day.

The charity’s website says: “We offer a wide choice of refreshments that change day by day. Our filled rolls and baguettes are baked and prepared each day using fresh ingredients, our cakes are locally made and our famous buns are specially baked for us daily. Our coffee is freshly made and our huge teapots are infamous!”

Different League of Friends groups run the cafés in the West Wing, the Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

People can nominate their favourite cafe on a coupon in the paper and send it in. The closing date for postal entries is Sunday, June 26, and the winner will be announced on Thursday, June 30.
