Prosecutors allege he was behind the wheel of a 2007-plate Mazda when he drove it dangerously on Steventon Road and Abingdon Road in Wantage on September 12 last year. Wilkes, of Blaney Way, Poole, denies any wrongdoing.

Judge Maria Lamb fixed the trial for September 5. The trial, which is expected to last two to three days, was put in the warned list – meaning it could be called on at any time during the two week period.

Dangerous driving carries a maximum sentence of two years, where someone is convicted in the crown court, and an automatic driving ban.
