The biggest four-day working week trial globally is set to come to the UK, with readers sharing their views. 

More than 3,000 workers at 70 companies will begin a four-day week with no loss of pay in a trial lasting six months.

Firms taking part will give 100% of workers’ pay for 80% of the time, in exchange for a commitment from workers to maintain at least 100% productivity.

Katherine T. Tyson, who lives in Oxfordshire, said: "Common sense change with the Digital Revolution. Improves productivity for the company, improves worker health, and encourages more industries to flourish because people have time/energy to go out. Beyond being just good for everyone it also gives people the time and structural flexibility to work two jobs if they need to."

Andy Dale, who lives in Carterton, said: "It's a brilliant idea. Shows the companies CAN afford to pay their staff a decent wage as well."

Steve Dawe, who lives in Oxford, said: "Excellent, combined with more remote working, quality of life can be improved for millions."

Other readers expressed that although the idea may work for some industries, it would be unlikely to work for others. 

Matt Denham, from Carterton, said: "Don’t know how well this will transition into the manufacturing or building trades"

The UK trial is being organised by 4 Day Week Global in partnership with think tank Autonomy, the 4 Day Week UK Campaign, and researchers at Cambridge University, Oxford University and Boston College.
