Jodie Burrage took plenty of positives from her run to the semi-finals at the LTA's Surbiton Trophy after she was beaten by second seed and world No.60 Alison Van Uytvanck.

Surrey’s Burrage - who is on the LTA’s Pro Scholarship Programme, the highest level of support for players aged 16-24 – lost 6-3 6-4 to Belgium’s Uytvanck in a hard-fought contest on Surbiton’s Centre Court.

While admitting she was frustrated after missing some chances in the match, the 23-year-old – ranked 200 spots below Van Uytvanck – took plenty of encouragement for her display.

“It was a tough match. I obviously played a very good opponent who’s doing well on the grass,” said Burrage, who will now play at the LTA’s Rothesay Open Nottingham next week.

“She did well last year on the grass, she knows how to play on it. I just didn’t really take my chances today.

“I put myself in a good position to take them but just couldn’t manage to break her. It was a break each set which was annoying, but it was pretty tough conditions. The wind was pretty bad, it felt pretty rough out there.

“At the end of the day, I’ve had a good week this week. I probably would’ve taken semis at the start of the week. I’ve played a good match today, I tried my best to get back into it.

“I’ve played four singles matches and a doubles match and my body has held up pretty well. I’ve put a lot of physical work in the last three, four months and I’m feeling good. I’m ready to go up to Nottingham and play there next week.

“I played some really good opponents, I got some of my biggest wins as well, so that’s a big positive for me in showing what I can do and feel comfortable playing these girls at this level. I’m just excited to do it again next week.”

The Kingston star now heads up to play in the WTA 250 event in Nottingham, where she’ll once again face Lin Zhu, who she beat in the opening round in Surbiton.

“I’m really excited to get going there. I’m going to play the girl I played first round here in the first round, so I’m going to be taking what I did this week into next week,” added Burrage.

“I’m just taking it match by match. I’m playing a level up from where my ranking is at, but not where I think my tennis is at so I’m going to go up there and give everything.”
