Crocheted snake made for the community in Didcot STOLEN

The woollen snake was placed at the junction of Worcester Drive and Sandringham Road in Didcot by an anonymous craft enthusiast.

The creative knitter, who goes by the name Crochet Kindness by R, lives in Fleet Meadow and crafts large crochet pieces to install around the area and bring joy to locals.

The artist initially believed the snake could have been removed by council staff. but now fears it has been stolen.

It is thought to have been taken on Sunday.

The knitter said: "It is really sad. I do not receive a lot of donations to do this, the money comes out of my pocket.

"I am doing this to make people smile, I am really not getting anything out of it. It feels wrong and it feels mean."

The artist has a donation page in which funds go back into the materials that create the projects for the community, with an average piece costing around £40 to make.

"It makes me feel sad and wonder 'why do I bother doing this?', they added.

Despite being upset about the theft, the self-styled 'yarnbomber' said they just wanted to see it returned, with no questions asked.

They explained: "If it was someone who was drunk, or if it was a child, all I want is the snake back.

"You can make an anonymous social media account and get in touch.

"It was for the community and all the smiles I can give, the better."
