A woman has documented her difficult journey home, after the bus route in her area was scrapped.

Alison Maitland videoed her journey from Oxford Railway Station to Hinksey Hill exclusively for the Oxford Mail, much of it which she had to complete on foot.

Mrs Maitland is part of the Residents Group at Hinksey Hill who are campaigning to reinstate a bus service in the area. You can read more about this here>>>

Bus services along Hinksey Hill were withdrawn in January following a Bus Network Review undertaken by Oxfordshire County Council.

Mrs Maitland said: “I had managed to travel the 500km from Brussels on trains and the tube until the last 4km from home.

“Fortunately I am also relatively fit and the suitcase was not too heavy and this was the middle of the day.

“I would not have walked from Redbridge on my own after dark. My alternative journey would have had to be a taxi.”

In order to get between Oxford and Hinksey Hill, people who do not drive now have to catch a bus via Redbridge Park and Ride.

In the video, Mrs Maitland describes that you have to “take your life in your hands” to cross the busy A34, to and from the Park and Ride.

Although it was light when she made the journey she said the route is “quite scary”, especially late at night.

She added: “There is no way an older person could do the route.

“There is way I would let my daughter, a child, do that route on her own.”
