ARMED police swooped after reports of a man with a ‘weapon’ in Barton.

Neighbours reported seeing the armed officers along with other uniformed police officers in Barton Village Road on Saturday evening.

In a statement, Thames Valley Police said: “Officers attended the incident and a 47-year-old man from Barton was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, assault thereby causing actual bodily harm and threatening a person with an offensive weapon.”

The force was unable to tell the Oxford Mail what offensive weapon was allegedly used in the incident at 7pm on Saturday, May 14.

The arrested man has been released on police bail. He is due to return to the police station to answer bail on June 12.
