A regular customer at the Covered Market was delighted to receive presents from traders after they found out it was her 60th birthday.

Rosie Pocock was in the historic market on Wednesday when she stopped to buy some oysters at Pershore Seafoods.

After revealing it was her 60th birthday, Maciej Lach, who manages the fishmongers, prepared her a special seafood platter.

Verity Hoper, city council communications officer for the Covered Market, said: "Rosie was buying seafood at Pershore and when I stopped to say hi she told me she was treating herself to something a bit extra special today. She bought herself some oysters. That was all she said.

"The next thing I knew Maciek – Pershore Seafoods manager – hushed me to silence as he came out with the most stunning seafood platter to suprize Rosie with because it wasn’t just a good day, it was her 60th birthday!  

"Not long after that other people she’s got to know from going to the market spotted the special platter, found out it was her birthday and added other presents like the beautiful flowers from the Garden of Oxford."

Ms Hoper added: "Rosie has developed her own most wonderful way to enjoy the market. She knows it so well.

"We would all like to wish Rosie a very happy 60th birthday."
