Kate Green has represented the surbub of Trafford since 2010 and announced the news that she was standing down in February.

The next general election is not due to take place until 2024.

Oxford City Council's deputy leader Tom Hayes, who is from Greater Manchester, explained: "I was born and brought up in Salford in the values of our labour movement fairness, equality and solidarity. I live those values everyday as a Labour councillor and a mental health and domestic abuse charirty chief executive. People are struggling, poverty is endemic and we're going to see many more people falling into destitution because of this cost of living crisis. That's wrong.

"I want to bring my knowledge and my experience and represent you in parliament so that we can fight the cost of living crisis so that we can restore our public services and so that we can bring the Green New Deal to the green benches.

"This election is about you. It's about your hopes it's about your dreams. I want to hear directly from you."

It is not yet known his plan for Oxford.
