JUDGES, barristers and solicitors will be among those lacing up their boots to take on a 10km walk in aid of Oxford legal advice charities this afternoon.

The sponsored walk has already raised £8,500 for Citizens Advice Oxford, Rose Hill and Donnington Advice Centre, Oxfordshire Welfare Rights, Shelter Thames Valley and the Agnes Smith Advice Centre.

Organisers hope to smash their £15,000 fundraising target once the pledged cash is counted after tonight’s event.

Judge Joanna Vincent, a family judge at Oxford Combined Court Centre, will be among those taking part. She said of the organisations benefitting from the fundraiser: “They’re absolutely essential. I think everyone knows that they are providing absolutely essential services across a huge range from housing to domestic abuse.”

She added of the Oxford Legal Walk: “It’s lovely because it is a coming together of the legal community. It was particularly nice last year after the pandemic but I think this year’s is going to be even bigger and better.”

The circuit judge will pad the streets together with a number of fellow judges as part of a team from Oxford Combined Court.

More than two dozen ‘teams’ are expected to take part in the sponsored walk, including fundraisers from Oxford Brookes' law department and solicitors’ firms in the city.
