In 1991, Princess Diana met children for a tea party in aid of the National Meningitis Trust, and police were forced to close off Queen Street to shoppers because of a bomb scare.
Crowds looked on as police cordoned off the street after reports of a suspect package.

Most of the road was closed off to the public and people gathered at the entrance to The Clarendon Centre to keep a watchful eye.

The city has been subject to a number of bomb scares over the year's including a cordon put in place at Oxford Railway Station in 1991 and July 2005, Culham laboratories, near Abingdon, in January 2007, and a suspect device reported at Oxford University's St Hugh's College in June 2013.
